Wednesday 24th November, 2010: “Ireland and India: an historical perspective” By: Dr Kate O'Malley

The Ireland-India Council (IIC), in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Ireland is organising a talk by Irish historian Dr Kate O’Malley titled “Ireland and India: an historical perspective”, on Wednesday 24th November 2010, at 3.00 p.m. in European Union House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2.
Dr O’ Malley will talk about pre independence connections between Ireland and India. During this period an affinity between Irish and Indian nationalists blossomed on the strength of their respective independence movements. She will talk about some of the keen friendships that developed between a variety of agitators from both sides. She will focus on Subhas Chandra Bose’s and V.J. Patel’s time in Europe.
Dr O'Malley works for the Royal Irish Academy's Documents on Irish Foreign Policy (DIFP) series. She is a graduate and associate of Trinity College Dublin. She has written extensively on Indo-Irish relations and her book 'Ireland, India and empire' was published by Manchester University Press in 2008.
The event is open to the public. There is no admission fee and all are welcome.
